Turn that phone off, Please.
Hello there!
It's been awhile (actually only
2 weeks) but I'm in the mood to write/type so pardon me.
Yesterday, I read one of my friend's, Regine, blog post on her blog. It's regarding
"Quality Time Spent" and how we define it today, with modern technology taking over our lives. The link's below if you want to read about it.
She may appear really
bimbo at times (in fact,
all the time) but she's really good at writing/typing. Yes I know you're reading this, Regine.
I hate you hahahahaha!
Anyway, I do realise that all these
technology has taken our lives so much so that we no longer interact properly anymore. Last year, for
my year end dance production, one of the items actually talked about
people's voices being silenced due to the use of
modern technology. When we use our phones, we block out their voices and
it's no longer heard.
It's really sad, actually, to have
the gadgets that were invented to bring people closer, actually pull them further apart. In fact, it doesn't make
anybody any closer than they previously were anyway. Hmmm.

Just today,
I had an argument with my boyfriend regarding the use of phone when we're having a conversation. He has been playing a game on his iPhone and got
so hooked onto it,
he's always playing it. Whether we're on the road, when he's talking to me, or even when he goes to the toilet.
It's quite irritating actually, if you're his other half.
I asked if he preferred to spend time with his phone rather than me, and he
denied. However, he refused to put the phone down because
he was so intensely focused on the game, until I raged at him and shouted at him. I got really upset, because I felt like
I waited a whole week to spend some time with him, only to have him face a phone game.
Eventually he gave in and put down his phone, and
promised to not touch it over the weekend. But he had one condition:
He wanted to go collect his 'daily reward' on the game. I was so upset because his mind was still on the game! I don't understand humans, I really don't.
//
Even so, he's actually, right now,
on his computer playing video games. The fact that he plays every night has become such a
common sight to me that it's no longer something I'm shocked about. (Realised how I used 'shocked" because it's a negative term?)
Sometimes, people need to realise that
proper human interaction is so much more important and
powerful than
virtual ones.
In the holidays, my boyfriend went out with
his clique of friends who played games together. I thought it was pretty decent, considering he told me about going to a Korean BBQ Eatery together for a meal and to hang out. That seemed like a nice idea, until he told me that
he was meeting them early to go to a LAN Shop to play games.
I got so annoyed, not because he was leaving
earlier, but because
he couldn't find other activities to do with them! You can play games any day and Skype to have a conversation, but he insists it's different because all of them are facing their own screen, side by side. Sometimes, I don't understand the male species.
//
He's been going to LAN Shop
every Monday now, with
only make-up classes in the morning. I understand it's a way to pass time, since he had to wait for my classes to end at 6pm. However,
I suggested for him to head to the gym since it's been a long time he had gone to the gym.
He decided that going to the LAN Shop was way more important than going to gym.
To him,
video gaming means more than anything. Sometimes, I feel like calling
TOUCH Cyber Wellness to report on him. Maybe they will send me a
restraint or a
hammer to
destroy his computer. I don't know, but I do hope they do.
//
I'm sorry I used my boyfriend as an
example and maybe it's a little against the
male species. But
females do use their technological gadgets these days and tend to ignore people too. I'm guilty as charged as well. There were so many instances where
I was using my phone when my boyfriend was trying to explain something to me, only to have me block it out completely.
It made him upset a lot as he felt that I wasn't interested. However, I can't be a true example because I have
over 30 unread conversations on Whatsapp (since I
don't like to use my phone).
//
I've seen
people who would use their phones non-stop and I don't understand the logic behind it. During
Leptis Magna chalet, everyone went into the chalet and asked for Wi-fi! People started taking their MacBook out, 3DS out, and the rest took their smartphones and started
hanging out with it.
Renald took out a book and I was beyond impressed ♥
//
I'm not saying that these technological advances have done us
no good!
I can't even count the number of times my phone had saved me from awkward situations or emergencies. My phone is my sense of security and I feel like I have nothing to fear so long as my battery isn't
dead (:
I use my MacBook for school work and I can't imagine what Poly life would be if I had to do work on pen and paper or write my essay on a foolscap paper!
I would die without Photoshop or Spotify as well! ♥
There are good and bad things about technology, but sometimes we need to
regulate our usage and choose the appropriate times to
put it down. Spending time with people (especially people close to you) should be non-virtual!
How else do you talk about things that matter, instead of who just posted an indirect tweet against another somebody?
All our conversations now
include .. "Hey look at this screen shot of the conversation I had", "do you know what ______ posted on twitter?", "Have you seen her latest selfie on Instagram?", "I think they are together, they have been posting photos together on Instagram, and have you seen the comments on it?"
When people ask me
if any two people are together and they began to "stalk" their Instagram or Twitter to find out, I do the easiest. Either I find a time to ask the person in person, or drop a message asking if it's true.
It's quite easy to do and there is no reason to misunderstand.
//
I'm sorry if this seems
long and draggy and repetitive but
I'm pretty done with people ignoring me for games or more games! (my boyfriend, yep) I get so annoyed and I just wished I could slam his computer/phone/3ds onto the floor and
destroy it for as long as I can.
If I can hang out with you for days and not check Instagram, Twitter or turn to Whatsapp when we're on a bus ride to somewhere, you can do the same.
I love technology, but I love being without it for awhile too.
I believe we all need technology in our lives, but I really do hope to live in a time where there was little technology. I think I
belong in that time, those years. I really think I do.

If there's a song
I'm currently addicted to, it's this one.
The Script is heavenly and so is Superheroes ♥ It's my favorite song now and
you can't imagine how happy I feel when it comes up on my Spotify playlist! (Yes
I'm poor so I don't have premium so
my songs go on shuffle)
