Who are we? FMS.
Hello there!
It's been awhile, and
I've been busy. July hasn't been a smooth-sailing ride so far, and I'm pretty glad it's coming to an end. I wouldn't say I've been unhappy,
I've just been too busy and far too tired ):
Work, School, Friendships, Family, Dance and Love has drained me to it's maximum. That's also why
I'm on MC today from a high fever or 39.4 since yesterday night O.O But I'm fine now, no worries ♥
Many people have asked me a lot of stuffs regarding
Mass Comm and the stereotypes towards it. So I decided that I might as well address this today! YAY. #masscommpride #fmspride #whatpride
//
I do admit I came into Mass Comm
without expecting it or wholeheartedly wanting it. It wasn't my first choice but
it wasn't my last choice either. I didn't have much opinions about it until FOC 13/14, when I was told that
Mass Comm has the stereotype of being political and bitchy and what-have-you. Well, that kinda scared me a lil' because I wanted a
peaceful Poly Life (as opposed to Nh).
Because of that, I avoided FBC 2013 T.T I was actually in school that day,
with Zodall @ Poolside! ♥ The camp walked past but I decided that
it wasn't important enough for me to neglect my favorite Zombies hehehehe ^^
My mindset was to dress like any other engineering kid and to
make friends with the quiet muggers and
hide my way through for the next 3 years. Honestly, that's what a lot of people would have wanted if they were in the same situation as me (: But school came, and I tried to keep quiet.
But my group of friends were far from that!
Making friends with Joelle, Yunrong, Joel Chua, Nicholas, Gofar, Arabelle really took a turn on things. Their involvement in FMS and Arabelle being well known made me stray further from my original mindset.
I started dressing up too, even if not as well as they do.
In the second sem, I even
made friends with Andrea, Ahmad, Daryl, Jolaine, Gladys and my T110! The more friends I made that were prominent, the further I drifted away.
But somewhere in between those, I kind of forgot what I was looking for, ♥ Either ways, I was happy. Very happy (:
//
Joining FBC 2014 was probably the choice that changed everything. By joining Leptis Magna, I got to know people from APR like my favorite Nana and FSV like Zong or other Mass Comm from (1.2) like SiEn, Leonard, Kim and Deena!! ♥ I grew to knew my sem better too, which now
you can see how much I love my dear dear Guanny .. ♥♥♥
Oh, and
so did D4F ♥

After telling you so much, I'm not saying that
it's not possible to keep your original mindset. I've had friends who remained low profile up till today.
You choose your company and stick with it (: But for me, I made friends with people a lil' more well-known than that and
grew into the lifestyle of a FMS student ^^
Are we political? No, we're not. As compared to BA, we're far from that. FMS is not a political school because
we don't do stuffs like Backstabbing or going the back way. We do everything up front and
if you had a problem with someone, you confronted them! It isn't a very nice way to do things, but it's the
most direct and useful way.
By telling people up front what is their problem,
it shows that you care for them and want things to be better. We are not political,
we do care for people we have unhappiness about. ♥ #stereotyperemoved
Are we judgmental? Yes we are. But then again, who isn't? I'm not trying to defend ourselves because
we are indeed more judgmental than most people are. We judge people based on their outer appearance much more than their inner selves. But if you look at it,
we're in a Media course where
they honestly don't care how much of a heart you have.
Can you blame us if we're trained this way?
If you really can't stand being judged,
you might want to reconsider if you're interested in this course. Or any media course, in fact. You have to be able to take judgements and
accept them in a lighter way that helps you improve. People would only say them to tell you how "not good enough" you are, because
let's face it .. Telling you everyday you're good enough when you're not
is not going to help you become a better person (:
#sadbuttrue
//
People say we dress up like
it's a fashion show everyday. Well,
that's only for .. 2/3 of the school. I do admit that
we like to portray ourselves in a better manner than others. We aren't afraid to wear our prom outfits, blazers or loud prints to school. Our outfits seldom repeat
within a week or two ^^ But that's our way or presenting ourselves.
In the media industry,
you have to constantly portray yourself well. If you don't leave a good first impression, you can kiss your career goodbye. Who wants to be behind the scenes for life? Nobody taking Mass Comm I would tell you.
Nobody at all.
//
All in all, I would say the stereotypes and stuffs are only
based on the fact that we're from a media school. Unlike a business school or engineering school where you work home-based or office-based,
we are actually hands-on and we're constantly under media attention. When you step into the industry, you can
no longer be just that man sitting in a office table.
Media people are judgmental on looks, appearance and the way you behave.
They are cruel and direct, and you have to be able to take criticism. If we're all
playing nice like HMS does, then you'll never learn to
push yourself harder.
No obstacles, no exposure, no learning ♥
Being in FMS, they train us for 3 years
the tough times we
WILL face in the media industry, if we were to pursue it.
Better to train us now when we can still cry to our parents, friends and our lecturers
will still comfort us, than in
the future in the industry when nobody will care at all! ^^
Honestly, being in a media school
taught me a lot. And I would say it prepped me really well for the industry I may be going into.
In fact, it's not just the media industry that's so cruel. Society in itself, is that direct and cruel.
You will be shot down, and faced with criticisms.
Our school just chooses to
expose us to that earlier so we don't have to be caught at a lost when we grow up. That's also why
students from NP FMS tend to go out becoming well-trained media professionals, ♥ That's because we've gotten sufficient training to not be book-smart or hands-on-smart, but
street-smart as well.

Now that I've talked so much about my school, would you be interested in being a FMS student?
Trust me, it's worth the while .. ♥
Here's a video of my favorite D4F to show you how #fmsslays #slaydontsettle
